Crossroads Apartments

Professor Don Faulkner/ Spring Semester 2011

A mixed-use apartment and retail complex in Fargo, North Dakota. The first two floors are designated for retail and small businesses, and the top floors are apartments. The facade is unique due to the prefabricated SIP panels it is composed of. An SIP, or structural insulated panel, is rigid foam core insulation sandwiched by plywood or OSB. Advantages of the system include the fast speed of construction, high insulation value, structural properties, and decrease of construction waste. This design proposes modular panels of five and ten feet with Marvin Window products factory installed. After installation of such panels only exterior and interior finishing would be required.
